Rare find! This 18th centuy (probably mid 1700's) thickly woven silk fabric. Dusty old pink in color with a pinstripe in indigo blue. Probably a lighter pink at one time but has aged significantly. I've seen photos of 18th century French skirts made from the same material.
Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
54 cm from top to bottom
The width is
49 cm wide (still has the selvage at both sides)
Condition
Silks made from this period were good and strong and have lasted the centuries. This piece is for it's age in good condition with only some tiny holes at the edges and the odd tiny hole here and there. When held up to the light you can see some thinning but the fabric is still strong and suitable for sewing. Colors vary due to age, use and quilting You will see some light soiling which may come up with a deeper cleaning.
The fabric has been given a cold water soak to remove dust and dirst and then a light light laundering using those famous Marseille soaps without bleaching agents.
It is our aim to preserve and protect the orginal colors of the fabric since many of our fabrics are being currently reproduced.
