I always love it when I come across a design I have never seen before.
A 19th century French cotton roll print. Bands of stylized dandilion motifs in red and green with a bit of yellow and aubegine in the centers of each motif against a light blue bankground that alternate with bands of tiny florals on stems in red and aubergine against a white background.
Photos are a good indication of color and condition.
Measurements
1 meter 32 cm from top to bottom
The width is
54 cm wide
*actually three pieces of the same fabric hand seamed together with two smaller pieces at bottom.
Condition
Distresssed with many, many small holes throughout and some larger holes towards the bottom and along one side. Thin areas throughout. Oddly the centers of the green dandilion motifs have dissapeared in almost all the motifs. Possibly due to the dye that was used at the time.
Still shows some slight variation in color which would probably lift with a deeper cleaning if desired.
The fabric has been given a long cold water soak to remove dust and dirt and then lightly laundered in cold water using those famous Marseille soaps without bleaching agents.
It is our aim to deliver a clean and pressed product when possible. We take care to preserve the color and integretity of the fabric since many of our fabrics our used for reproduction.
