Really interesting design and technique in this 19th century French cotton fabric. 
 
It has the appearance of a resist dye but is probably a print with repeating pattern of styliwed florals on leafy stems in white. The backgroud color is light blue with bands of a greenish blue that cross the fabric in a diagonal direction. 
 
The background blue color has a tiny wiggly line in white that almost looks like moire.

*actually three pieces of the same fabric hand seamed together. One large piece and two smaller pieces added to one side. Original selvage can be seen at the seams. 
 
Condiion
 
Distressed with two very large holes. many small holes and some thin areas.  A couple of fade spots. 
 
Colors have a consistant aged look but vary sligthly due to use and having been quilted at one time. 
 
The fabric has been given a long cold water soak to remove dust and dirt and a cold water wash using those famous Marseille soaps without bleaching agents.
 
It is our aim to preserve the color and integretity of the fabric since many of our fabrics are being reproduced.
