A 19th century French toile du jouy. Cotton. Medium weight. Depicts village scenes of figures and buildings with with trees and foilage around the sides Possibly with the them of the four elements of Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. Two of the elements are shown here and you can see the inscriptions "l eau" and "le terre" in the fabric. Shades of red and white in color.

Left in as found condition and not laundered. Has a very clean appearance. . 
 
Very good condition with no damage or stains. Colors are strong and consistant. The only thing to note is that you can see that at the top edge right a small piece of the fabirc has been cut out.
