Love the design and tone on tone look in this large panel of French 19th century cotton. Based on the selvage to selvage width possibly early 1800's.
It was a curtain at one time. Roll printdeisgn or large florals on leafy stems that alternate with a stylzied column Pinstripes run through the background crossing the widht of the fabric. Finely woven the appearance of a double weave. I like the back just as much as the front. Would work well for soft furnishings as well as period costumes.
Colors are two shades of brown. The darker brown color has a slight brownish aubergine look to it.
Full repeat.
Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
From top to bottom
2 meters 52 cm
The width is
74 cm (still has the selvage along both sides)
Condition
.Two lines of small holes running across top edge. One large hole bottom left hand corner. Several small holes and pinholes here and there throughout the fabric. Best suited for smaller projects.
Colors good and strong and even.
The fabric has been given a cold water soak to remove dust and dirst and then a light light laundering using those famous Marseille soaps without bleaching agents.
It is our aim to preserve and protect the orginal colors of the fabric since many of our fabrics are being currently reproduced.
