An early to mid 1800's French cotton block print fabric. Possibly Oberkampf who did several variations of this design. Medallion shaped motifs with stylized blossoms and leaves. Background shows a dotted broken line and dots.
Colors are madder red and mustard.
Full repeat.
Photos are a good indication of actual color and condition.
Measurements
From top to botttom
1 meter
The width is
78.5 cm (still has the selvage at both sides)
Condition
The fabric was made into a curtain at one time. Motifs are strong and even in color for the most part with slight variaitions. Background color was probably an even medium mustard color at one time which can be seen at the selvage but has lighted with time and shows some variations here and there throughout the fabric. No stains.
There in one large hole which can be seen in the photos, a tiny hole and a tiny thin spot. One corner of the fabric shows some damage.
The fabric has been given a long cold water soak to remove dust and dirt and a cold water wash using those famous Marseille soaps without bleaching agents.
It is our aim to preserve the color and integretity of the fabric since many of our fabrics are being reproduced.
