We've carefully hand stitched this 19th century French cotton fabric sample to a hand written 18th century French letter dated 1761.
The fabric is a repeating block resist dye design of blossoms, leavves and circles. Motifs in white against an indigo blue background.

The fabric measures approx
9 x 9.5 cm (actually two pieces of the same fabric hand stitched together).
The letter measures
24.5 x 18.8 cm
Condition
Left in "as found" condition.
Fabric is in good condition with with one small hole at one edge. Colors have lightened over time but original color can be seen at the edges where the fabric was not exposed to the elements.
Letter shows signs of wear and age.
