An English sampler. Dated "1847" done by 11 year old Elizabeth Mary Pickering. Silk embroidery on a linen base. Some beautiful motifs of a tree of life, baskedts with flowers and butterflies at the top. Text center,  name of maker and date at the bottom with a group of florals at each side. The edges a repeat pattern of florals.

44.5 cm from top to bottom x 42 cm across. 

Condition
 
Very good for age. Color have undoubtedly darkened with age but no fading and even. No missing thread. All threads intact. There is a small group of little holes at the left hand edge which can be seen in the photos. At one time I believe the sampler may have been framed because you can see some very light glue residue at the back edges.
