We've carefully hand stitched this 19th century French cotton fabric sample to a hand written 19th century French letter.
The fabric is a repeat block design with fan shaped leaves, and what looks like strawberries with a broken branch design in between. Reminds me very much of early Oberkampf. Colors are natrual red, grey, very light sage green against an off white background.
Full repeat.
Part of a unique collection of samples that we have been saving for documentation and reproduction work.
Photos are a good indication of actual color and condition.
Measuresments
The fabric measures
10 x 9.4 cm (squared)
The letter measures
26 x 18 cm
Condition
Left in "as found" condition.
Fabric is in good condition with consistant colors and no damage but does show signs of soiling. Some heavier lines can be seen from when the fabric was once quilted.
Letter shows signs of wear and age.
