Stunning design and colors in this early to mid 1800's French cotton quilted coverlet. Repeating design of carnations and leaves in rosey red to pinks, blue and white against a dark aubergine background. When you look closely you can see that the coverlet is made up of several of the same pieces of fabric all hand seamed together.

The back is a cotton stripe in greenish blue, gold and creme.

A thin layer of batting between the fabrics.

I believe the coverlet may have been much larger at one time and that the cotton/linen band around the edgeshas been added with a machine stitch at a later time.

Photos are good representation of acutal color and condition.
