A late 1700's early 1800's oil painting on canvas. French in origin. Depicts a portrait of a gentleman. Possibly from the clergy.  Wooden frame with canvas nailed in around the sides. No signature that I could discover.

Left in as found condition and not cleaned.
 
Distressed. No holes but you can see at the back that there is a patched repair at the chest area.. A thick large area of missing paint along the bottom edge. Cracks in the paint. Other small areas of missing paint here and there. A thick layer of dust and probably dirt. The painting appears to have been tucked away in storage for years.
