Dating from 1820 this long cotton French toile du jouy. "The Life and Adventures of Chevalier de Faubles" by Jean-Baptiste Louvet de Couvray. Depicting a variety of staged scenes with figures with sets in the background. Several French inscriptions.
Colors are shades of brown and off white.
Full repeat.
Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
From top to bottom
2 meters 18 cm
The width is
81.5 cm (still has the selvage at both sides). .
Condition
Left in "as found" condition and has not been laundered. Good clean appearance with no obvious stains. Colors strong and consistant.
The fabric appears to have been used as a curtain at one time.
A few smaller holes along the top and bottom edge. A couple of tiny pinholes in and around the middle of the fabric which can be seen when the fabric is held up to the light. Some tiny age spots along top edge. Nothing major. For the most part in very good condition other than what I stated above.
Colors were probably shades of purple at one time but have now lightened evenly with age. No fade spots.
