Quit a rare find and a bit of research to figure out the origin and age of this stunning fabric.
Probably manufactured in Lyon known world famous for producing high quality fabrics. A finely woven jacquard done in silk and gold metal thread. Conservatively dating between 1880 to early 1900's (I prefer to underestimate age than overestimate). Early examples with similiar designs date back to the 1700's.
Intended as an interior fabric not a dress fabric. At first I thought the fabric was a lame because it has that look and feel to it with a nice flow. It is however a jacquqrd weave; storng and durable and probably intended for wall coverings; upholstery projects or soft furnishings.
The fabric depicts a hunting scene with Persian/Oriental looking figures. dogs and what looks like a leopard.
Full repeat
Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition. Some photos may appear to show fading but that is not the case. The fabric is difficult to photograph due to the high metal thread content. You will see a full photo of the back of the fabric as well.
I've done some research on the fabrric and tried to provide the best discription. In case anyone has further details I can add please contact us.
